Yesterday I discovered a really great way to vent off anger and annoyance. I was really pissed off for some reason as I was driving home last night, so I cranked up the volume of the radio and starting arguing loudly with the DJ. It quickly escalated to a full on verbal massacre. Fuckin awesome, I tell you... And I felt SO MUCH BETTER afterward. XD

I FUCKING LOVE IT. I. FUCKING. LOVE IT.

And I really wonder how it will look in the morning. Sometimes my opinion changes significantly overnight.

(Oh, and I'm still thinking in British accents, btw.)

Reason for lack of glasses: While I was painting this, I saved the glasses for last because I figured it would be a lot easier that way. And then when I added them he just looked like such a TOOL that it made me sad. And I suddenly realized: Harry Potter's glasses are retarded. I mean, they're fine for when he's the poor kid stuck under a cupboard, but no grown man (or 17-year-old even) would wear those round wire frames. Get some bloody contacts, man!! Or magically fix the shape of your eyeballs. </copypasta>

Oh, and I'm in love with A Very Potter Musical.

I was introduced to A Very Potter Musical today, which is absolutely brilliant. I think the cast is just fantastic, and the guy who plays Harry is like almost out of my imagination. Seriously, the show is FUCKING GREAT.

But I wasn't even done with act 1 yet when MY INTERNET DIED. FUCK THAT.

So in the meantime, I was super inspired to draw Harry Potter. And here's what I've got so far (with glasses and a scar scribbled on to identify him).



I FUCKING LOVE IT. I haven't fucking loved a drawing in so long. Ahhhh now I'm happy. I want to hunt down a boy who looks like this so I can fucking marry him.

Yayyyy now the internet is back, so I think I'll watch more of the musical and get back to this later.

Oh, and I was listening to the Answer Me This podcast (also brilliant) while I was drawing, which explains all the swearing in this post. Because now I'm thinking in British, and every time I write "fuck," I hear it in an English accent and it's FUCKING HILARIOUS. Sorry kids.

Oh, and I drew some shit sketch yesterday but it's lameeee so I won't even bother posting it.

Ugh. I started rendering Jesse today:



I'm not 100% pleased with how it's going. I'm not good at building a face and making it do what I want. Usually I just wing it and it ends up looking like a face... but not the face I was going for.

Today was sluggish. I woke up at 2 after 12 hrs of sleep. And to think- I was so worried I wouldn't be able to sleep again. (The night before I had mad insomnia... only got 2.5 hrs of sleep and it freaked me out. I never get insomnia.) Bleehhhh I feel like this drawing is pulling me back. Those photo/life studies actually seemed to be getting me somewhere. But this drawing is like... back to where I was before. But I still want to force myself to finish it because 1) I actually want to do a character tribute to these three, and 2) I need to do more full body stuff.

I actually did this one last night:



I tried the whole building-from-nothing thing where you block in colors with really soft brushes and work in hard edges later. It's cool because it actually kind of worked the way I wanted, but... I dunno it was so WEIRD. Like I had no idea what I was doing the entire time and then suddenly a face appeared. I'll have to try it again...

I'm considering starting a sketchbook thread at conceptart.org, because those seem to generate really great feedback, and I get like zero traffic here. But... MAJOR INTIMIDATIONNNNN!!!! Too many incredible artists there... I would feel stupid. Ahhhh I don't know.

Anyways, here's a couple more from today. Sorry for double posting. I didn't think I'd be this productive...

I'm still trudging through Algenpfleger's sketchbook and it still amazes me. I'm way jealous of his motivation.

This one actually does look kind of like me. Kind of. I dunno, I keep thinking that drawing from life/photo reference is easier than it is. But I'm pretty bad at it. Maayyybe I should practice more....

I just went on vacation for a week and rediscovered this thing called paper. Awesome. So I'll post some of those sketches once I get them scanned.

Sooo I've been looking at the sketchbooks of janaschi and algenpfleger recently, and they FUCKING BLOW MY MIND. Yeah. Those people like... study. And it totally pays off because they're brilliant.

Oh mannnn incredible people out there.

So anyways, I was like HAY MAYBE I'LL DO SOME STUDIES TOO. So I found this picture of Aragorn (baha I was watching LOTR last night) and did a quick color sketch of it. It was supposed to be a color study, but that was reallyyy really hard so I ended up eyedropping some of it. I guess that kind of defeats the purpose of a color study? Blaahhhh I dunno. And I thought it was going alright until the end when I overlayed the reference photo to check it. Yeahhhh not close. Not close at all. But I guess I'll post it anyways cuz it was kind of fun.

And afterwards I was like, awww damn I don't think I learned anything from that. BUT THEN I went back to that other original drawing I was working on, and... I think it did have a tiny effect on how I paint. Lol it's probably not noticeable to anyone else, though...

Oy, so I played around w/ the thing I was working on yesterday... er... yeah, still don't really know how I'm gonna do this.

Soooo... I am COMPLETELY obsessed with the John Mayer song, Dreaming with a Broken Heart. I had probably played it a billion times while going through my music on shuffle, and I probably skipped it a few times too... I dunno, I just never really connected with it. But one day it came up again and I was so struck by that one line: "Do I have to fall asleep with roses in my hand??" Seriously, that's the SADDEST, most PATHETIC image EVER. Gaahhhh and the first verse is like... cry. And now DPOVIJAPOFIJAPOVIJAPFIJ I fucking dream about this song. Like last night- I had a dream about this song. Ahhhh I love the emo-ness. :D

But yeah, I was kind of inspired:


I have a couple ideas for what to do with this... maybe turning it into a comic panel of sorts would be more effective. Or... yeah I dunno, I just don't think I can make it painful enough with only one image. Plus, I don't think I've ever drawn anything that could tell a story... and that'd be cool to work out.

It took me a while to figure out the background perspective thing... but I think it's working. Kind of.

I'm bloody sick of looking at my gallery and seeing nothing but static portraits. Make things moooovvee, dammit.

Bahhh I've somehow let my dA messages pile up again. Now they're over 140, I think...
